The Best Homemade Chex Mix
If you’re from the Midwest you’re probably pretty stoked about the Super Bowl again this year. Go Chiefs! Whether you’re attending a small (& hopefully covid-safe) super bowl party, hosting your own or simple staying home and laying low- here are some snacks & appetizers that are sure to be real crowd-pleasers. But first, I need you to try this homemade Chex Mix I threw together. This recipe makes a lot so you can serve this up at a party and likely have enough to send some home with your guests. Since it does take several different types of cereal, you could always use the other half of the boxes to make a sweet treat like Puppy Chow.
I originally made this recipe during Christmastime and bagged it up and gifted it to friends and family along with some sweet treats. It’s perfect for gifting or entertaining!
The Best Homemade Chex Mix
This recipe makes a lot so you can serve this up at a party and likely have enough to send some home with your guests. Since it does take several different types of cereal, you could always use the other half of the boxes to make a sweet treat like Puppy Chow.
Ingredients
1/2 box Rice Chex
1/2 box Wheat Chex
1/2 box Corn Chex
1/2 box Cheerios
2 cups pretzel sticks
1 lb mixed nuts
1 stick butter, melted
1 cup oil (I use EVOO)
3 tsp Cayenne Pepper (if you’re not into spice, you might reduce this by 1/2)
2 tsp Garlic Powder
2 tsp Lemon Pepper Seasoning
3 tbsp dry Ranch Seasoning (a 1 oz package)
optional: a bag of toasted rye chips
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 200° F.
Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl
Combine butter, oil, and dry seasonings and mix well
Pour oil mixture over Chex and continue to stir well, making sure all bits are covered
Spread the Chex mix out over 2 cookie sheets (I like these) or a roaster pan and bake at 200° F for 2 hours, stirring and turning every 30 minutes so the oil is evenly coating the mix.
Let cool and then enjoy.
