Our Engagement
The evening started out as any other typical date night. Big and I have this thing where we like to try new places to dine rather than going to the same ole same ole place all the time. It’s not just about the food but about the entire dining experience and overall atmosphere. So it was not unusual for us to be going out to a nice dinner on a Friday night. And, although not “new” to the Tulsa scene, we both had never been to Mahogany’s before. Little did I know, I was in for a much bigger treat than cocktails and prime steak!
After settling in and ordering a couple drinks, we decide to order an appetizer; the Applewood Smoked Trout Dip served with crostinos…it was SO good. And then Big steps away to use the restroom. A few seconds later our waitress walks over and says, “here, a note for you” and hands me a small notecard folded in half.
The front read “Mami”, which is what Big calls me. So I open it up and start reading. I got about halfway thru before I started crying and then to my right I see the shadow of a person and suddenly Big is on his knee with tears in his eyes. And then he pulls out the most beautiful diamond ring I have ever witnessed.
The next few minutes are blurry because I blacked out a little, but needless to say, I said YES. All I could keep saying and thinking is “are you kidding me??”, it honestly felt too good to be true! Next thing I know the tables around us are clapping and someone sends champagne over!
Friday night was just the beginning of an exciting and surprise-filled weekend. On Saturday, we had some errands and chores to finish up and then decided to go for dinner at our favorite local place, the Copper Bar. What I thought was going to be a quiet night out with my new fiance and our favorite bartender, ended up being an absolute rager with my best friends. Taco Bell to cap the evening and all.
Big, somehow, gathered up my best friends and their significant others and got them all in the same place to help us celebrate our engagement! It reminded me of the scene in Sex in The City The Movie when Carrie and Big get married at the courthouse and anxiously awaiting behind the doors are Carrie’s best friends waiting to celebrate with a bottle of champagne! I honestly couldn’t believe he pulled this off!
Little did I know, we were all staying at the Price Tower that evening. Big had secretly packed a bag for us and taken care of the dogs so all of us could stay at the Inn at Price Tower after a night out on the town. This was so incredibly thoughtful, we were all able to relax and let loose and not have to worry about getting Ubers or having to drive 45+ minutes home. The entire weekend was an absolute fairy-tale.
I must say, there was no stone left unturned when Big planned this. The day before our datenight / engagement he took us to get manicures so I’d have freshly manicured nails for the big night. I hate to sound all gushy but I still get goosebumps when I relive this weekend in my head. So incredibly lucky and thankful for Big and all of my best friends who made this weekend one I will never forget.

Cheers to Wedding Planning!
